Zeng Guoquan : ウィキペディア英語版 | Zeng Guoquan
Zeng Guoquan (; Styled ''Yuanfu'' 沅甫 ; Posthumous name: ; created Marquess Yiyong of the First Class 勇毅一等) (, 1824 –, 1890) was an eminent Han Chinese official and military commander of the late Qing Dynasty in China. He was the 9th brother of the prominent statesman and general, Zeng Guofan. During the Taiping Rebellion, he assisted his brother in raising and organising local forces into the Xiang Army to fight the rebels, and was an important military commander for much of the Xiang Army's existence. Among his victories were in reconquering Ji'an in Jiangxi Province in 1856, as well as leading the assault on the Taiping capital at Nanjing in 1864. He was also known, however, for condoning massacres of the civilian population in many of the cities he captured, including Nanjing; this led to his sobriquet Butcher Zeng by the local populace. ==Early life== Born a native of Xiangxiang, Hunan (湘乡) in 1824, Zeng Zicheng (曾子植) was the grandson of Zeng Yuping, a prosperous farmer with social and political ambitions.
